Snowfall is possible in the Free State, Eastern Cape and Lesotho from Thursday and through the weekend into Sunday this weekend.

The accumulated total for possible snowfall has decreased since the last forecast, with a little less than 10cm possible in some areas.

Snow is NO LONGER indicated for the Free State.

In the Eastern Cape there is a chance of a light dusting of snowfall on the high-ground around Lady Grey, the Barkly Pass, Rhodes, Naude's Nek and Tiffindell Ski Resort (not currently operating) on Saturday.

In Lesotho more snowfall is indicated for much of the higher ground including between Afriski and Sani Pass, Semonkong, Qacha's Nek and the south-west, with some hotspots where just under 10cm is possible. Maseru might also get a dusting of snow overnight into Sunday.

The high-ground around Ladybrand in the Free State is also on the radar now for a light dusting of snow on the weekend.

Snow has already fallen around Afriski in Lesotho on Thursday morning.

If you are planning to travel through areas that may get snow it is worth being prepared by reading our article on safe winter travel.

The map indicates where we are seeing the possibility of snow, but it may not fall in all of the areas shown on the map. As with any forecast of any kind (temperature, clouds, rain, wind), what eventually happens may or may not be similar to the forecast. Snow indicated may reduce or vanish completely in some areas, or the dates and times may change.
