Light snow across parts of South Africa this weekend

A smaller front will bring snow to the Western Cape and Eastern Cape this weekend, in advance of the larger front that SnowReportSA published a forecast for earlier today.

From the early hours of Friday morning light snow is expected on the Hex River mountains (including Matroosberg) in the Western Cape, with some of the other high peaks in the region getting a light dusting too. It is possible that these light falls will continue on and off through the day on Friday and into Saturday morning.

During Friday, we are also seeing light snowfalls starting over the Swartberge and Outeniqua ranges near Oudtshoorn and George, with these light falls persisting through until late on Saturday. There is a possibility of some fairly low level snow in these areas, down to around 1000m in elevation.

From Friday night and into Saturday afternoon, light snowfalls seem likely in the Amatola region of the Eastern Cape around Hogsback and on the high ground between Cradock and Graaff-Reinet. Once again, some lower level snow might be experienced in these areas with snow possible down to an elevation of around 1300m.

There is also a possibility of some flurries around the Tiffindell area in the Eastern Cape Drakensberg during the early hours of Saturday morning, but not much is expected here, and settle may not even occur.

By late on Saturday night, all snowfalls are expected to cease as the system exits the country to the east. The entire east coast of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KZN should prepare for some colder than normal weather over this weekend, and the chill will also be felt further inland.
