Snow falls in the Drakensberg and Lesotho in time for the Easter weekend

Snow fell in Lesotho and on the Drakensberg overnight as per our forecast and is visible from KwaZulu-Natal this morning.

Snow Report Southern Africa received videos from Afriski Mountain Resort on Tuesday afternoon and by Wednesday morning a layer of snow covered the high ground in the east of Lesotho.

A good amount of snow was visible on the peaks from the towns in the central and southern Drakensberg on Wednesday morning.

Festival goers at the Splashy Fen music festival, which takes place on the Easter weekend, should prepare for chilly weather as the snow on the peaks may not have melted by then.

In 2024 we put out our first snow forecast of the season on the 6th of April and we have seen snowfalls every April for the last few years.

NO low-level snow is expected on normal public roads in South Africa this week.
