Possible snow for Christmas in South Africa

It may be a white Christmas in the Western Cape, as up to 5cm of snow may fall on some peaks between Christmas evening and the early hours of Boxing Day.
While extremely light snow may fall on the high-peaks near Cape Town, including around Franschhoek, Wellington, Worcester, Tulbagh, the Koue Bokkeveld and the Cederberg from late on Christmas afternoon, as much as 5cm may fall on some peaks.
With the freezing dropping down as low as 1700m, if the forecast stays on track then the possibility of a very light dusting is very real for some areas.
Readers might like to know that this is not the first time that the Western Cape has seen snow on Christmas. About fifteen years ago or so there was a snowfall on Christmas Day that was visible from the N1 in the Hex River Valley for days afterwards.
It should be noted that this is a very early forecast and the likelihood of it changing and the snow vanishing completely is very high. SnowReport would not normally post a forecast this far in advance for this late in the year, but we thought that this might get South Africans excited after the recent load-shedding.
