More low-level snow possible for South Africa and Lesotho on Sunday

More low-level snowfall is indicated for three South African provinces as well as Lesotho for Sunday.

Some high-level snow is possible on the Western Cape high-peaks in the early hours of Sunday morning and some lower-level snow is indicated during the day on Sunday. Up to 15cm is possible for the highest peaks and between 5cm and 10cm is possible at lower elevations.

This includes the peaks and high mountain passes around Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Paarl, Wellington, Tulbagh, Franschhoek, Rawsonville, Worcestor, De Doorns, Villiersdorp, Grabouw, Greyton, Genadendal, Robertson, Montagu, as well the Cederberg and the Koue Bokkeveld.

The low-level snowfall is mainly indicated for Sunday but with the freezing level at around 1200m, it not be as low as the most recent snowfalls. There is a chance of around 5cm or more of snow falling on the Bo-Swaarmoed Road near Matroosberg Reserve, the Theronsberg Pass (R46), the N1 between De Doorns and Touws River and the Rooihoogte Pass (R318) on Sunday.

Beaufort West, Swellendam and the Swartberg range from Ladismith and towards the east past De Rust are currently in the snow zone. The Swartberg Pass between Oudtshoorn and Prince Albert may to get a dusting of snow on Sunday.

The high ground around Uniondale and Willowmore is also indicated on the map for light snowfall on Sunday.

Sutherland and the southern part of the Northern Cape looks like it may get some light snowfall this weekend.

Lady Grey, Barkly East, Rhodes and the high passes near Tiffindell in the Eastern Cape are on the radar for light snow on Sunday. The high ground around Graaff-Reinet, Cradock, and Hogsback are also in the snow zone for a possible light dusting.

Lesotho is also on the radar for some light to medium snowfall later on Sunday and into the early hours of Monday, as per the map. Afriski Mountain Resort, as well as the top of Sani Pass, may get get a light dusting of fresh snow again.
