Good rainfall over the weekend from the Garden Route to Gqeberha should be good for dams27 October 2025By Staff Writer
The Garden Route and south coast from George in the Western Cape to at least Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape received good rainfall this past weekend with 78mm being reported in some areas. The area received way more rainfall than expected, based on forecast data, and this should help the level in the Garden Route Dam in particular which was at 60.0% last week. UPDATE: The good rains over the weekend in the George region had almost no impact in the rate of drop in the Garden Route Dam level over the last week. Reports of rainfall this weekend Lake Pleasant/Groenvlei – 78mm Denneoord, George – 40mm Hoekwil – over 40mm Sedgefield – 40mm Knysna – 38mm Walmer, Gqeberha – 33mm Cotswold, Gqeberha – over 20mm Most provinces in the country have overall dam levels well above last year, but the Western Cape total was at around 11% less than at the same time last year, although a fair amount of water has been released from the Clanwilliam Dam on the west coast in order to do construction work on the wall. Dam levels last week Gauteng Total – 100.6% Free State Total – 96.9% KwaZulu-Natal Total – 93.5% Mpumalanga Total – 93.1% Northern Cape Total – 90.1% North West Total – 89.7% Western Cape Total – 82.2% Limpopo Total – 81.2% Eastern Cape Total – 77.5% Overall dam levels in North West are at 30% more than at the same time last year, with the Free State at 20% more and Gauteng at 14% more.
