The first snow of 2020 may fall on the high-peaks of the central and southern Drakensberg tonight.

The data suggests that the freezing level may drop just enough to deposit a few centimetres of snow on the highest peaks in the Lesotho Drakensberg tonight.

SnowReportSA has been watching the data for over a week now and we’ve seen enough consistency to suggest that the snow event may happen, but if the freezing level is only slightly higher than expected it will just result in rain.

No low-level snow is expected, and the freezing level is not expected to be low enough for snow at the top of Sani Pass.

We have received numerous reports over the past few weeks that leaves are falling early in many parts of the country, suggesting that winter may be on its way a bit sooner than last year.

Should you be traveling through any snow zones please be sure to take photos and/or videos and send them to us ASAP (whatsapp 072 390-8021).
