Snow falls in the Western Cape and Sutherland as spring arrives

As spring officially rolled in, some low-level snow fell in the Western Cape and Northern Cape on Tuesday including in the Koue Bokkeveld, the Ceres high-ground around Matroosberg Reserve and in Sutherland.

As per SnowReportSA's forecast, the peaks of the Western Cape were covered in snow as the sun came up and the clouds cleared.

The first report of low-level snow falling came from Matroosberg Reserve outside Ceres in the Western Cape a little before 7am in the morning. Shortly afterwards reports came in of snow falling in the town of Sutherland in the Northern Cape.

But 9am a report had come in of low-level snow falling in the Koue Bokkeveld region of the Western Cape.

With a number of confirmed reports of snow that was reachable with normal vehicles, snow chasers would have the opportunity to get out and build snowmen although it is quite likely that the very low-level snow would melt quickly.

While the excitement level is usually very high after these low-level snowfalls, snow chasers are reminded to respect private property and not climb over farm fences and gates.
