![]() More warnings from SAWS due to a cut-off low this weekend20 October 2023By Staff Writer
Another cut-off low is impacting the country this weekend. Warnings has been issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) who say that Numeric Weather Prediction (NWP) models suggest 100mm or more of rainfall within a 24-hour period for some areas. The following warnings and outlooks were issued by SAWS: The weather outlook for Friday 20 October included scattered to isolated rain and showers along the south coast of the country, with morning drizzle along the escarpments of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Otherwise, conditions will be fine and warm, as per the map below. The weather outlook for Saturday 21 October includes isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers over the southern and central parts of the country but widespread over the Garden Route in the Western Cape and the Eastern Cape, as per the map above. Orange level 6 and yellow level 2 warnings for severe thunderstorms and disruptive rainfall have also been issued for the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal this weekend, as per the maps below. The weather outlook for Sunday 22 October includes isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers in the south-east and eastern parts of the country but widespread along the Eastern Cape coast, between Coffee Bay and Port Edward, as well as the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal. Temperatures will be cool in the east and otherwise warm to hot, but very hot over Limpopo Western bush-veld – as per the map from SAWS below. Some snow is also possible for Sani Pass and in Lesotho overnight and on Sunday morning. Maps with the region-specific alerts and warnings from SAWS can be found below.
