Amazing photos of wild animals in snow in Southern Africa16 May 2024By Staff Writer
Every year we receive amazing photographs of wild animals in the snow in South Africa and Lesotho, and these are some from our archives. In 2021 Les took some amazing shot of cheetahs feeding at Mt Camdeboo in the Eastern Cape. Kitty from Asante Sana Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape has sent us photos of giraffes, elephants and other wildlife. When snow fell in Johannesburg in 2012, Lorna took an amazing shot of a lion at the Joburg Zoo. Charlotte took a stunning photo of a springbok in the snow while volunteering at Roggecloof Guest Farm outside Sutherland in the Northern Cape. Allan from Bidstone Cottages in Wartrail in the Eastern Cape regularly gets out to take photos of animals in the snow, including the alpaca below. Craig sends us photos from Giraffe Walks near Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape often. The snow season in Southern Africa is generally between May and October, but snow has fallen in throughout the year at high elevations in South Africa and Lesotho. This year there was a small snowfall in Lesotho and the Drakensberg mountains in April, but nothing in May.
