Snow Forecast Update : 27-30 August 2014

The snow will be visible soon! From Wednesday, late afternoon and evening, we should experience more light snow fall on the very high mountain ranges of the WC as the third frontal system arrives. The snow fall will continue to intensify over the mountains of the WC throughout Thursday, with as much as 20cm expected for Matroosberg. The freezing level will drop down to 1200m in places, with widespread snow expected over most of the high lying areas of the SWC and into the Southern parts of the Northern Cape by Thursday. At the same time, the cold front will extend eastwards, dropping snow on most of the ranges as it goes. By Thursday afternoon, light snow is expected over some regions in the Karoo, the Southern parts of the NC and all the coastal mountain ranges from Hermanus to Cape St.Francis, as well as inland regions of the Eastern Cape. By late Thursday night, early Friday morning, falls are possible in the Southern Free State, the Eastern parts of the Eastern Cape, the Eastern Cape Drakensberg and many parts of Lesotho. There still seem to be a strong possibility that snow in the Free State could extend as far as Bloemfontein on Friday. There is likely to be snow in the KZN Drakensberg and nearby midlands areas by Friday morning. Isolated falls are anticipated to continue through Friday in the EC, Lesotho, KZN, and even some possibilities into Saturday morning. 27 30 AUG SnowReport Map
