Forecast: Snow expected for W Cape, E Cape, KZN, Lesotho

Here is the latest update SnowReporters! Not a lot has changed since our forecast yesterday, but the changes are as follows :

* Snow now expected further west in the Western Cape, now incorporating Matroosberg (about 10cm expected on the peak tonight). Also more snow possible on the Groot Swartberg, and possibly a dusting for the Outeniquas.

* More snow generally for the Eastern Cape. The Sneeuberge near Graaff-Reinet might get a bit more than previously though, and the Cradock area through to Hogsback could also get a few flurries and maybe a dusting during Wednesday.

* KZN Midlands might get a few flurries during the early hours of Thursday morning, but it is not expected to settle at this stage. * The Clarens/Harrismith/van Reenen area now seems less likely to get snow, but we can’t rule it out totally.

So, we are expecting snow in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape, heavy falls in Lesotho and the Eastern Cape Drakensberg, medium/light falls on the KZN Drakensberg, possibly coming down into towns like Underberg and Himeville, although not much expected low down, and some flurries in the KZN Midlands.

* Tuesday – Western Cape and western parts of the EC * Wednesday – Eastern Cape and Lesotho * Thursday – Eastern Cape, Lesotho and KZN

This system is accompanied by a lot of rain, and the public are urged to listen to warnings from their local municipalities and the South African Weather Service. Disruptions and flooding are possible in many areas. We will disseminate snow news as and when we get it. Keep warm, and be safe:
