Snow Report SA

We are starting to see the possibility of some snow falling at Matroosberg and surrounds during the early hours of tomorrow morning (Thursday). Not much is expected, about 2cm, and it is only likely to fall on the top of the high peaks.

Snow anywhere else seems unlikely at this stage, but we are expecting a good blast of cold air travelling up from the WC, through the EC and into Lesotho, the FS and KZN by Friday. Temperatures at Splashy Fen Festival near Underberg (KZN) are still expected to drop down to 3Β°C overnight with a max temp of 17Β°C during Saturday.

People going to the Clarens Festival (FS) will experience similar conditions to Underberg - the cold blast will affect them too. We will update again should there be any changes to this forecast.

The chances of snow this weekend have reduced substantially over the last 24 hours. It is starting to look like the required moisture is going to move east ahead of the cold air arriving. But the cold is still coming! For those attending the Splashy Fen Festival near Underberg, expect overnight lows around 5degC and daytime highs between 12 and 17degC. The cold air will be felt in the Western Cape from Wednesday night, and will make its' way up the coast through the Eastern Cape and into Lesotho and KZN by Friday. Snow Report SA

We are starting to see a good chance of snow on the KZN Drakensberg, starting on Thursday night over the extreme high peaks around Thabana Ntlenyana in Lesotho, and moving onto the central Drakensberg peaks during Friday, and affecting Northern Drakensberg peaks from late on Friday night. All these areas mentioned, could continue to get light snow falls on the peaks right through until Sunday afternoon. These falls are dependent on a cut-off low forming on Thursday, but at this early stage, it is looking very likely. We will keep watching, and update the forecast in the days ahead. Indications are that some of the high peaks in the Central Drakensberg could get as much as 20cm, but we will know more closer to the time. At this stage, no snow will fall in any of the SA provinces, and falls will be confined to the extreme high peaks of eastern Lesotho. ... See MoreSee Less

Snow Report SA

A nice wet weather system will make its' presence known in the EC, Lesotho and KZN from late tonight. Wet and cooler weather can be experienced over these areas into the weekend. There is a slight chance of light snow on the extreme high peaks (above 3400m) of eastern Lesotho on Thursday night. This snow is unlikely to settle due to all the rain that will fall before and after the snow event. We will be getting some very welcome rain with this system, and other provinces like the WC, NC, NW and Mpumalanga could also receive very welcome rains over the weekend. We will update if the situation changes. ... See MoreSee Less

Our forecast this morning remains the same as yesterday. We are still expecting snow over most of the high peaks in the southern and central Drakensberg (Lesotho side) tomorrow. To mention a few of the peaks, Mafadi, Champagne Castle, Giants Castle, Thabana Ntlenyana and Njesuthi. Anything between 3cm and 7cm can be expected through the day on Saturday on these high peaks. We are not expecting any snow to fall below elevations of 3,200 meters. It is unlikely that the snow will be visible from SA on Saturday, and may be visible on Sunday from vantage points in KZN if the accompanying rain doesn't wash it all away, and the clouds clear. The front is already arriving in KZN, and cold and wet weather is expected from later today. Many coastal areas in the WC and EC started reporting welcome rains from yesterday afternoon as the system has moved up the coast. The weather is clearing behind the system already. ... Snow Report SA

It looks like the frontal system has arrived in Cape Town slightly ahead of schedule, bringing some much needed moisture to the area. It is unlikely to drop a huge amount of water, but after the recent heat in the Cape, we are sure that it is much appreciated by the locals. We have loaded a clear day image of the normal view so that you can compare πŸ™‚ We will update our snow forecast tomorrow morning. ... See MoreSee Less

Snow Report SA

The snow is still coming, but we are seeing a decrease in quantity. The cold air and moisture band, at this stage, will not push quite as far inland as the charts showed yesterday, and as a result there will be less snow. The forecast area remains the same (southern and central Drakensberg on the Lesotho side), but the snow will now more than likely be confined to the extreme high peaks like Mafadi, Njusuthi and Thabana Ntlenyana. The falls are likely to start during the early hours of Saturday morning. Yesterday, we were expecting as much as 10cm on the peaks, and this has been revised to a maximum of 4cm at this stage. The front will be making landfall in the Western Cape later today, and will make it's way up the coast during the day tomorrow. We will update again tomorrow. ... See MoreSee Less

Snow Report SA

We are starting to see the possibility of some snow falling this weekend, Saturday specifically, over the extreme high peaks of eastern Lesotho. Peaks like Njusuthi, Mafadi and Thabana Ntlenyana could all see some snow from Saturday morning right through until Saturday night. Only a couple of centimeters are expected at this stage, and it is possible that the flurries won't even settle. The snow will also be accompanied by occasional rain. This is quite common during the early season, but if we get sight of anything, we will be sure to let you know. We will also update later in the week as the frontal system moving up the coast gets closer. Colder weather can be expected in the adjacent provinces over the weekend. ... See MoreSee Less

Ah Snow Report. All about the money! Wonder why you don't offer whatsapp alerts for KZN? Trying to force people into paying the 500 instead of 100 for the KZN region alone. Typical! You've lost the love of snow and now you're following your love for money!

Snow Report SA

Despite the cooler weather across many parts of the country this morning, there is no snow! Temperatures did drop below freezing over certain peaks in Lesotho last night, and this chill is being felt both inland and at the coast. Warmer temperatures will return over the weekend and next week. ... See MoreSee Less
