Update for snow expected this week - A cold front will still make landfall in the Western Cape this Monday, bringing with it a light snow flurries beginning mid-morning into the evening over the high peaks of Western Cape Mountain ranges and likely extending into the early hours of Tuesday morning over isolated spots of the Eastern Cape as it moves across South Africa.
We are not seeing any snow flurries for the Northern Cape anymore unfortunately. All snow should cease as the system weakens mid-morning on Tuesday the 26th of September. Stay warm and be safe. Good morning Snow Reporters! We have spotted a cold front making landfall in the Western Cape early next week. This cold front should bring some much needed rain but also a little snowfall on Monday, the 25th of September, beginning in the afternoon and likely extending into the early hours of Tuesday morning, and possibly even into Tuesday afternoon in the Western parts.
The snow falls will be confined to the high peaks of Western Cape Mountain ranges with some mountains in the Ceres and Worcester area possibly receiving up to 10cm of snow. A few isolated snow flurries may be spotted in parts of the Northern Cape but nothing widespread expected. Should anything develop further we will be sure to let you, our community, know. The freezing level looks like it will drop to 1500 meters over much of the Western Cape on Monday night, so expect a cold start to next week. Stay warm and be safe. Please note that we are not expecting any snow this weekend. History tells us that winter is not over yet though, and that we should expect at least one decent snowfall in September. It doesn't happen every year, but on average, it happens 4 out of 5 years, so don't pack the winter woollies away just yet! We will let you know as soon as we see something on the way again. ... My son Gareth was born in Sept 1981 & that night it snowed in Northcliff, Johannesburg
remember one year I was working in the Eastern OFS. The cherry blossoms were lovely, the farmers were happy, the bank managers were happy. Then we had a cold front come through. No more cherry blossoms - farmers were sad, and so were the bank managers
Nowadays it's so warm in Pretoria, I do not own winter clothing anymore. I wear my summer clothes plus a jacket
this sounds about right. the last snowfall in jhb was August 2012....the one before that was 2007, Let's hope it happens this year again
Fingers and toes crossed
Seriously? The worst 'spring day' news yet... 😣 I'm not a winter loving person, sorry...

There is a small system impacting the Western Cape today. Light snow falls are possible over the high peaks within the yellow circle indicated on the map later this afternoon.. Not much is expected to fall, and it is possible that it will not settle or accumulate at all. No other snow on the radar for the rest of the week.
