EC and Lesotho Snow forecast 4th – 5th October 2017

We expect that all snow in the Western Cape has now stopped, and hopefully when the clouds lift later, we will get some visuals. As the front moves further east, and meets some moist tropical air, we could see some flurries in the greater Amatole region (Hogsback) during the night tonight, but we are not expecting much to settle, if anything. The Eastern Cape Drakensberg area could get some snow settling during the early hours of tomorrow morning (Thursday), but we are expecting heavy rain there too, so it could wash away very quickly. The big surprise is the Lesotho snow, which is currently looking extremely heavy at elevations above 2900m, and not much expected below these levels. We are expecting heavy falls across the entire Drakensberg, from north to south, but none of these falls are expected to come down into KZN. We are seeing the possibility of falls between 20cm and 70cm across all the high peaks, which should create some spectacular views from KZN when the clouds clear on Friday.
